Which of your purchases actually have a return window

Retail almost always gives you one. Thrift, estate sales and most marketplace purchases usually don't. Knowing which is which before you list something is cheaper than finding out after.

Usually has one

A retail store, in person or online. There’s a printed total and a company behind it, and a stated window until you confirm otherwise.

Usually doesn’t

Thrift, estate sales, garage sales, and most purchases from another reseller on a marketplace. Treat it as final sale unless told otherwise.

The two need different habits, not just different labels. Retail: note the deadline, list it before the window closes if returning an unsold item is your fallback. Used goods: no clock to watch, list whenever you're ready, but also no safety net if it turns out to be a dud.

A simple rule of thumb: if the receipt has a store's name and a printed total, assume there's a window until you confirm otherwise. If it came from a stranger's driveway or a resale app, assume there isn't.

Never miss a return window.
